FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I register for work with Porter Consulting Group?
  2. It's easy! Simply telephone us on (+61 8) 9226 0100 and ask to speak with a consultant to discuss your next career move. Alternatively, email your current resume so we can assess your suitability and experience against our current vacancies and let us know the type of position you are after. Visit our resume preparation page for hints and tips on how to prepare a first-class resume.

Once we have spoken with you and assessed your suitability, we will arrange a mutually convenient time to meet for interview with one of our experienced consultants. If you do not reside in Perth, then we will arrange a telephone interview or let you know when we may be visiting your State.

  3. Does it cost anything for me to use Porter Consulting Group's services?
  4. No, we provide a free service to all job seekers. It is illegal for an employment agency to charge a job seeker for their services. Recruiters get paid for their services by the companies they place you with.

  5. Which type of companies do you recruit for?
  6. As a boutique consultancy, we do specialise in a number of core areas in the professional services sector including legal, IT, finance and insurance. Please visit our Areas of Expertise page for further information and examples of the positions we recruit for.

  7. How will you contact me about suitable positions?
  8. Our consultants will generally contact you by telephone in the first instance or via email to discuss an opportunity or a position you may have applied for. All email applications are acknowledged with a response to let you know we have received your application and informs you of the process moving forward. If you would like to speak directly with a consultant to discuss your application for a position, then please feel free to do so.

  9. What does your interview process involve?
  10. Our consultants are trained to undertake comprehensive behavioural and competency based interviewing techniques at Porter Consulting Group. We follow best practice interview standards to ensure we gain an in-depth understanding of your skills and experience and often we like to find out how you work on a day-to-day basis in your current or previous employment situation. This means we can assess your suitability for a particular position to ensure a match is made. We also like to take the time to get to know you on a personal level to ensure the culture and team fit is right for your next step. Our consultants enjoy developing close relationships with their candidates and also use our interview process to get to know you more. Please visit our Interview Tips page for our hints and tips on how to succeed in interview.

  11. Can I register with other agencies?
  12. Yes, you are welcome to register with other agencies - all we ask is that you provide an avenue for open and honest communication at all times throughout the process and that you let your consultant know who you are meeting with, and which positions you have already applied for. This is to ensure we don't waste our time seeking out the same opportunities that another agency may have already represented you for and means you maintain a professional approach to your job search process with prospective employers. It never looks good if numerous agencies are sending your details to the same employers - this just makes you look bad and not in control of the process. We do ask that you keep us up to date with the progress of your job search as we very often spend a lot of time working behind the scenes and don't want to disappoint our clients should you accept a position earlier than expected.

  13. My consultant mentioned I may need to consent to a background check - what does that involve?
  14. Porter Consulting Group has partnered with Australian Background to undertake its pre-employment screening process. Porter Consulting Group and its clients value honesty, integrity and safety in the workplace. We put our values into practice daily through the way we conduct our business, and our pre-employment screening process forms an important step in putting our client's values into practice. Pre-employment screening is often also referred to as background checking, integrity checking, probity checking, etc. Pre-employment screening verifies the information that you provide to us in your employment application about your employment and educational history, your entitlement to work in Australia and your criminal record, etc. For further information about the background checking process and how it operates, please click here for an information sheet.

If you have a particular question not covered above or would like further information, please call one of our consultants on (+61 8) 9226 0100 or click here to send us an email with your enquiry.
