The legal technology (otherwise known as litigation support) industry in Australia has been growing for some time. Growing in the number of professionals permanently engaged in this work, growing in the number of third-party providers in the marketplace and finally growing in the range of services offered to lawyers and clients.

Career Opportunities

Many of our clients in most centres throughout Australia regularly seek bright and talented legal technology staff to boost their growing teams. Quality roles are often available for experienced people right across the spectrum - from legal assistant and paralegal roles to team leaders, project coordinators, project managers, technical and senior level roles. Many of our positions are rarely advertised and our strong client network means we often know about vacancies before they arise in the market. We are always interested in speaking to candidates who have that unique legal technology experience with large discovery and due diligence matters and advanced database skills and computer literacy. Career Framework & Training

There are many opportunities in the legal technology industry to progress your career once involved which usually depends on available projects in the market and/or the level of growth within the firm. Most industry training is currently provided "on-the-job" and experience in the industry is imperative in order to progress. A job sizing framework does exist for the industry to use as a career planning guide. A summary of this career framework is outlined below. It is important to note that roles within each firm or bureau will differ and not all groups will have every level of position. As such, this is meant as a guide only for career planning purposes. For those interested in entering the industry without relevant experience entry level positions often exist at either the paralegal level (for those with a law background), or at a technical level (for those with a relevant technology discipline).


National Manager / Director

Broad scope for overall national group success.
> 6 to 8 years in industry.

State Manager

Implementation of strategies & management of business plans.
> 4 to 5 years in industry

Project Manager

Accountability & management of major projects for group.
> 2 to 5 years in industry

Technical Manager / DBA

Develops projects as part of larger business plan or works as specialist on project basis.
> 2 to 5 years in industry

Technical Analyst

Works on projects as part of larger business plan or works as technologist on project basis.
> 1 to 2 years in industry or comparable industry.

Project Coordinator

Works on small projects, short-term with specified timeframes & ongoing regular tasks.
> 1 to 3 years in industry.

Paralegal Technical

Works on ongoing regular tasks or routine day-to-day activities.

She spent several years in Melbourne and Sydney gaining valuable experience and worked on many large projects with clients including the Metropolitan Ambulance Service Royal Commission (Victoria) and the HIH Royal Commission (New South Wales). She was responsible for the recruitment and placement of over hundreds of discovery paralegals during her time, and numerous project coordinators and senior project managers for top tier law firms and leading bureau providers. She now enjoys many close relationships with project managers and national heads of legal technology groups with top tier law firms and continues to service them today; both from a recruitment perspective and even more so at an advisory level.
